MUMBAI: Raj Thackeray's Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) on Wednesday said it would not accept the public apology offered by Amitabh Bachchan for recent remarks made by his wife Jaya Bachchan.
The MNS, which has targeted non-Marathi speakers and even attacked shops for not putting up Marathi signages, said that it wants Jaya to personally apologize before print and TV journalists for recently saying at a film’s music launch that she would speak in Hindi as she was from UP.
Amitabh apologized at a press conference and on his blog on Wednesday in the hope that it would pacify the rowdy MNS activists who had gone on a rampage ripping posters of his latest movie and threatening other Bollywood sites.
It is learnt that deputy chief minister R R Patil has decided to step in to resolve the row. Though Patil declined to comment, reports said he had spoken to both Amitabh Bachchan and Raj Thackeray, stressing the need to maintain calm during the festive season.
